Inspired by the practical styles of the 1950s, these bags have a flat base, darted external and internal pockets, and shoulder straps. View 1 has an unusual stylized flap that fastens with an upward-turning tab attached to the front pocket. View 2 has a pocket with a button-trimmed flap. It features two handles and a shaped inset at the top.

Bags are approx 17” (43cm) wide x 13” (33cm) high x 5” (13cm) deep at the base

For View 1 you will need:

¾ yd (70cm) of 54” (140cm) wide, or 1yd of 44” (115cm) wide fabric for bag exterior

¾ yd (70cm) of 44” (115cm) wide lining fabric for bag lining, pocket lining and interior pocket

½ yd (50cm) of 44” (115cm) wide, or 1yd of 36” (92cm) wide firm sew-in interfacing for interfacing bag

½ yd (50cm) of 44” (115cm) wide quilted calico/batting for added shaping (optional)

½ yd (50cm) of 36” (92cm) wide fusible interfacing for strap, flap, pocket top and tab

1 magnetic snap set

Plastic canvas or similar 13½” x 4½” (34 x 11½ cm) to stiffen bag base

1 button approx 1½” (35mm) diameter for tab trim

For View 2 you will need:

½ yd (50cm) of 44” (115cm) or 54” (140cm) wide fabric 1 for bag front/back

¼ yd (25cm) of 44” (115cm) wide fabric 2 for front pocket, and top inset

¼ yd (25cm) of 44” (115cm) wide fabric 3 for pocket flap and handles

¾ yd (70cm) of 44” (115cm) wide lining fabric for bag lining, pocket lining and interior pocket

½ yd (50cm) of 44” (115cm) wide, or 1yd of 36” (92cm) wide firm sew-in interfacing for interfacing bag

½ yd (50cm) of 44” (115cm) wide quilted calico/batting for added shaping (optional)
